SILF Meeting, 30 May 2017, Hyatt Regency

Location : Hyatt Regency, New Delhi
Event Date : 5/30/2017 12:00:00 AM

Dear Colleagues,

I led a delegation of SILF Members to Washington from 24th April till 29th April and thereafter to New York till 2nd May at the invitation of the American Bar Association Section of International Law.

There is an exchange of visits every year between ABA and SILF. This was our 4th visit and ABA delegation has visited India on 5 occasions and now in 2018 we shall welcome them again.

Profiles of delegates in form of a booklet was widely distributed in the US and soft copy is attached along with the full programme and details of one day exclusive Conference held on 29th April in the offices of DLA Piper. Mr. V. Lakshmikumaran flew specially for this Conference to make his presentation. I thank all delegates for their cooperation and support and for making this a memorable visit.

Now is the time for stock-taking and planning for the Road Ahead. New developments are taking place at a fast pace. Legal profession is undergoing a paradigm shift. AI (Articial Intelligence) is gaining ground even in the legal profession. Government and BCI still seem to be undecided about foreign law firms. GST may open new opportunities for law firms as also the Insolvency Code. How to make India the hub for International Arbitration?

We need fresh, new and innovative ideas to keep SILF relevant. I want to discuss all these issues in the Meeting and invite concrete suggestions about future activities.

I am pleased to inform you that Building Plans for SILF Building have been approved – I will give a fresh update in the meeting.

Regional activities have to be encouraged and promoted. I request Member Firms to suggest how we may undertake activities in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Chandigarh and other cities / regions.

I earnestly request you to attend this important meeting and share your valuable inputs.

Warm Regards
